B I O (-ish)

Current stats.
  • I've spent the last 30 years employed as an office worker (or business professional, if I listen to the career counsellor's advice) with executive assistance work experience as well as project management, database development and tech training.
  • Some of this experience was obtained a while ago, so it, like the tech industry's older than two year old product releases, may well need an upgrade. (See the point about old dogs and new tricks from the previous page.)
  • I'm a fifty (+barely) something single parent to a teen. I'm not bothered by the single part, or the middle aged part, or even the teen part. All this means is that I have a lot of personal, professional and life experience, I'm free to move about the cabin of my life without a seatbelt and while my teen is not quite as independent as I might wish him to be, he can take care of himself in my absence. This also means that there is much freedom in knowing that the hard part - for the most part - is behind me.
  • I'm a highschool graduate and Fine Art college drop-out. There are times I wax nostalgic and think that getting a degree would be cool but frankly most of what I've learned and KNOW has been on-the-fly, on the job. Practical experience always trumps education, unless you are a rocket scientist or a neurosurgeon.
  • I get really excited by new opportunities (if you read the previous note about "new relationship high" you know what I'm talking about). I like learning new things. It keeps things fresh and vital, and being a little bit on the edge of my comfort zone invigorates me and keeps my work reaching for higher ground. It's where I like to be, as long as we are clear that we are making progress toward a mutually happy product. That goes for everything, regardless of what kind of work I am doing.
  • While I like the stretching, I also like to know that I'm reaching excellence. It's incredibly empowering to know that my work is appreciated and respected, and this in turn will encourage me to set an even higher bar.
  • If you'd like to see my resumé (or c.v. as they say here in Canada) please drop me a line (see Contact page).
